If you have been in the high-end wig business for years, you are probably already very familiar with hair layers, because different layer types can have a significant impact on wig pricing.
However, many new customers who are just starting their wig business may not fully understand this yet, so it is important to explain it clearly. In the market, wig layers are generally divided into four types: no layer, super small layer, small layer, and big layer.

What is Big Layer on Wigs?
A big layer means that all the hair on the wig is the same length, no matter where it is located, such as the front, crown, or nape area.
Since the hair is attached to different parts of the wig cap, strands of the same length will fall to different positions on the back, creating a very obvious layered look.
For example, if you buy an 18-inch wig, the length measured from the crown to the hair ends may look like 24 inch or even 26 inch. This makes the wig appear much longer and gives it a strong layered effect.
Because the hair in every part of the wig needs to be very long, this type of wig is much more expensive than regular wigs. In the actual wig business, only a small number of customers request this kind of hair layer.
What is No Layer on Wigs?
No layer hair on a wig means that the hair tips fall to the same position at the back, no matter whether the hair comes from the front, crown, sides, or nape area.
To achieve this effect, the hair used at the front and crown must be much longer than the hair used at the nape. In normal cases, the front or crown hair can be around 8 inches longer than the nape hair. This is because hair from different parts of the wig cap needs to fall to the same bottom line.
The biggest advantage of no layer hair is that the ends look very full, thick, and even. This wig creates a strong sense of volume and density at the bottom.
Many women like this style. It is especially popular for short and medium lengths, such as 14 inch to 18 inch wigs. For longer wigs, however, more women prefer super small layer wigs, because they look more natural and lighter while still keeping good fullness.
What is super small layer on wigs?
Small layer hair on a wig means the hair tips do not all fall to the exact same position, but the difference between the layers is still very small and soft.
Compared with no layer hair, small layer wigs have a slightly more natural shape. The hair at the front, crown, sides, and nape is still arranged carefully, but the ends are not completely even.
Instead, they fall with a gentle layered effect, so the wig does not look too heavy or too flat at the bottom.
Super small layer wigs are usually designed for longer wigs, such as 20 inch and above.
